Good eye eventually came back and he started seeing more out of the bad eye o Decided not to spend another day working Joined university of the wilderness o Caught malaria on his way to Cuba o Carr and husband moved to CA and told him to go there in 1867 o He took a steamer across Panama and up to San Fran in 1868 o Began taking trips to Sierra Nevada Stephen Fox Wrote John Muir & His Legacy John Muir & his Legacy Had romance with woman but married Louisa Strentzel o Her father owned a big Apple Orchard that Muir inherited when he passed o Didn't have to work for a living because of orchard and well-off wife o Had two daughters together Sierras = Range of Light Wild nature = window opening to heaven and mirror reflecting creators Mountaineering Filled coat pockets with rice and took pot/pan + bed + rope and left for days/weeks into wilderness "learned to live like the wild animals"
