Caused by sedentary life style o Can also be genetic o Usually treated with lifestyle, diet, and exercise plans o They also need insulin sometimes, usually big doses because of insulin resistance o High blood sugar o High osmolarity o Symptoms: hunger (bc the body says you need sugar), thirsty, and peeing, decreased loc and confusion o People with high blood sugar get stomach cramps o Complications: fluctuating blood sugar causes these not the high blood sugar itself, kidney failure, blindness, speeds up arthrosclerosis which leads to heart attacks and strokes o Infection can make blood sugar climb no matter what diet is o Normal blood sugar 70-120 o Control of diabetes for 3 months is tested by the hemoglobin A1C o Diabetics are immune compromised Hyperpathyroidism o Calcium will go up o Get kidney stones and osteoporosis if not fixed Acromegaly o Caused by growth hormone o Face and hands grow really big. Makes features maculine o Causes headaches because growth squishes skull o Caused by pituitary tumor usually o This is called giantism if it happens to a child before growth plates close and they just get really tall Increase of ADH and you swell up. Sodium gets low and the brain does not like low sodium. Treated with decreased fluid intake and Diabetes insipdus
