AHIMA code of ethics #5 which states “Refuse to participate in, support, or change
reported data and/or narrative titles, billing data, clinical documentation practices, or
any coding related activities intended to skew or misrepresent data and their meaning
that do not comply with requirements”(AHIMA, 2011). I think this one means the most
because if these practices are being done then the entire integrity of the profession is
destroyed. I would model ethical behavior by following all aspects of the code of ethics
because this is the only way for an HIM professional to earn the respect and trust of
other professionals and to be an example for new professionals coming into the HIM
profession.
