Table 47 describes an example plan that details the type of information you must define for a workflow policy action. Examining Workflow Policies and Workflow Policy Programs That Are Predefined This task is a step in “Process of Planning a Workflow Policy” on page 332 . Workflow Policies comes with a number of predefined workflow policies and policy programs. Before you define a new workflow policy, you can examine the predefined policies to determine if a policy already exists that meets your business requirements. This way, you can modify existing, predefined objects rather than defining new objects. For more information, see “Types of Workflow Policy Programs That Are Predefined” on page 381 and “Properties of Workflow Policies” on page 470 . Table 46. Siebel Business Process Framework: Workflow Guide Version 8.1, Rev A Defining a Custom Workflow Policy Process of Planning a Workflow Policy 336 Planning a Test and Migration Strategy for a Workflow Policy This task is a step in “Process of Planning a Workflow Policy” on page 332 . Before you implement a new workflow policy, you must make sure that it works properly in a test environment. The environment can consist of a sample Siebel database and test data. Testing a new workflow policy, workflow policy condition, and workflow policy action makes sure that the policy you release into the production environment properly executes and does not cause a conflict with an existing workflow policy. Guidelines for Setting up Your Test and Migration Strategy Guidelines for setting up your test and migration strategy include: Make sure your test environment and production environment contain identical versions of the software and that you are using realistic data in your database by using a partial or full copy of the production database. Define a small group of workflow policies to implement as a first phase of implementation. After you successfully implement the first group, you can add more policies in a systematic manner. To test a new workflow policy, in your production environment, manually issue a query that is based on the new policy, then check the response. This technique helps you determine if a workflow policy generates excessive notification or misses the rows you must monitor. For more information, see “Migrating Workflow Policies to the Production Environment” on page 443 . Examples of Planning a Workflow Policy This topic describes examples you can examine in order to plan a workflow policy.
