Question 2: Briefly summarize your thoughts on Rogers major concepts of the self, self- actualization, and unconditional positive regard. Answer: Carl Rogers believed that for a person to be able to achieve self-actualization, they must be in a state of congruence. This means that self-actualization occurs when a person’s “ideal self” is congruent with their actual behavior. Rogers stated that the concept of actualization refers to an organism’s tendency to grow from a simple entity to a complex one. Meaning you can move from dependence to independence. Rogers also stated that unconditional positive regard was the acceptance and support of an individual, regardless of what this person says or does. Accepting someone for who they are, no matter their actions. Question 3: What research design(s) did Rogers use in his studies? Answer: Carl Rogers is known to be one of the founding fathers of Psychotherapy Research. Rogers also allowed for him and his colleagues to be taped, so this would be some form of s-data or self-data I believe. Allowing themselves to share all of the feelings and insights they had as they continued to research. Question 4: Do you think Rogers conducted his research ethically? Why or why not? Answer: Yes, I believe that his research was conducted ethically. While at the time his methods may have been new. He believed in confidentiality and that the client’s permission was to be recorded before any research was conducted.
