Girls like musicians because “they’re irresponsible assholes who look good doing it” Girls pay for things → prostitution Some women want to become musicians - get sex out of being famous Women feel more superior Women participate in dance contest - want money (for downpayment on condo) Want exposure What do you gather are the main types of platforms/options that are available to women in terms of their representation as women? Representation in music videos & lyrics of songs Gazzarri dance competition, other than that not many opportunities Women used for men’s entertainment Consider what women are getting out of the music itself. Why do they like it? Why do they play it? Are they using the music for a specific purpose? Proves to themselves that they can do something that’s primarily a male activity Playing music - women are participating in activity where gender performance is mostly about male posturing → it’s liberating for women Enjoy dancing Reading - women listening to music A lot of metal music don’t really talk about women at all in lyrics, it’s more of a male bonding experience When there’s a woman’s presence in music its about the woman’s dominance over men → As a seductrice
