6. Report on required readings Due Date: On Dec 16 (submission on Canvas)Possible Points: 10 pts. Weighting: 10% Description: Students will complete a report documenting the completion of their assigned readings at the end of the semester. A form will be distributed to assist students in completing this assignment. Assessment: Assessment is simple for this assignment. Students will receive a score based on the percentage of the assigned reading that they have completed (e.g. if they report completing 90% of the assigned reading, they will receive a score of 9 for this assignment). CLASS POLICY INFORMATION1. Office Hours: Students are more than welcome to stop by my office during office hours. However, it is best to make an appointment ahead of time by email so that you do not end up waiting a long time while I talk to another student. If my office hours conflict with your class schedule or other responsibilities, I am glad to set up an alternative meeting time. 2. Class Attendance Philosophy and Attendance Policy:Regular attendance is a critical part of the learning process. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class session for the sole purpose of determining if a student qualifies to have his or her grade rounded up. If a student misses two or less class sessions with a final percentage that is within two points of the next higher grade, his or her grade will be rounded up (e.g. from a B to a B+ or from a B+ to an A-). In determining if a student qualifies for this “bonus”, excuses will be given if a student misses class for the following reasons: 1) serious illness, 2) a family emergency or 3) a student is representing Biola at an athletic or performing event. If you are absent for one of the reasons listed above, you should contact the TA in charge of attendance by e-mail so that he or she can note that your absence is excused. 2. General Requirements for Written and Oral Projects: Biola University desires to maintain the highest standards with respect to the composition of all work, whether written, oral, or otherwise performed. As such, student projects should follow the recommended procedures and be presented in the required format(s). All papers must be double-spaced and use a font size of 12 points and margins of 1 inch. The font
Course Syllabus Page 9 should be standard (e.g. Ariel, Times New Roman or Helvetica), as should the format (papers may be written in APA, MLA, Chicago or Turabian formats). Just pick the format that is most familiar to you and use it consistently throughout your papers. Please include a title page at the front of each paper. Students deficient in writing skills are urged to seek assistance at the Biola Writing Center, which is located on the middle level of the Biola Library. 3. Submission of Assignments: •All assignments should be submitted online via Canvas and should be original to this course. •Assignments are due by midnight on the due date. Late Work will be accepted but the grade will be reduced by 10% for each business day following the due date (up to a maximum penalty of 50%). What this means is that if a paper due on Wednesday is turned in on Thursday, the grade will be reduced 10%. Or if a paper due on Friday is turned in on Monday, the grade will be reduced 10%.
