Responding to the Scenario As an advanced practice nurse, I would respond to scenario 5 patient by giving the necessary medical care based on the severity of the injury. If the injury were a mild traumatic head injury, then the patient would be required to rest and be monitored closely for any worsening, persistent or new symptoms. Appropriate medication would be essential to help the patient to relieve the pain that is being experienced (Giordano et al., 2018). In case the patient’s condition improves within a few days before the anticipated football game, then I can allow the patient to participate in the game if there is no risk of getting further injuries. However, if scenario 5 patient’s condition were evaluated to be severe and to have caused further injuries, then the patient would require further treatment in the emergency room (Giordano et al., 2018). Since the patient is only 17 if it seems serious I would speak to the patients parents as well. The patient would be exposed to the medications that limit secondary damages. For instance, diuretics medication would help in reducing the amount of fluid in brain tissues. If the blood vessels are unable to supply the brain cells with the right amount of oxygen, the patient would be given coma-inducing drugs to put the patient into a temporary coma since while in this condition, less oxygen would be required for the brain to function.
