A lot of crime associated with them, force their way into houses and threated Failure of quarantine o Starved the people with black plague to death, collected everyone in house that had plague, because there was no transmission of plague people to people, isolating them did not work, they did not no what was causing the disease Violent anti-Semitism o Many people thought Jews were responsible for the plague, burned them to death, Jews fled and moved to Poland and Russia o Flagellism - response to the hopelessness of the plague, quasireligious group who would march town to town, form a circle and start beating each other with whips with nails on the ends Created a lot of excitement and wonder, villages would see it as an honor, would offset a sin of some sort and stop the plague from coming to their down o Clergy lost power Before the plague the church rules everything and determined how people lived, the clergy was powerless to helping the people who got the plague Church lost a lot of power which contributed to the secularization of society, non religious governments then became powerful in Europe, effected political change and political process o Feudal system broke down Owners had it all their way, after the plague the farmers could not farm because the peasants had passed, Labor became more scares, feudal lords lost power because they had to pay more for labor
