Course Evaluation : The final course grade will be based on a score of 650 points ( NO CURVE ). 3 hourly exams: 120 pts. each, total of 360 pts. 7 quizzes: 10 pts. each, total of 60 pts. (lowest one dropped) 4 homeworks: 20 pts. each, total of 60 pts. (lowest one dropped) Final exam: 170 pts. 650 pts. total Grading Scale : A+ = 100 – 96.95% A = 96.94 – 89.95% A – = 89.94 – 86.95% B+ = 86.94 – 83.95% B = 83.94 – 77.95% B – = 77.94 – 74.95% C+ = 74.94 – 71.95% C = 71.94– 65.95% C = 65.94– 62.95% D+ = 62.94 – 59.95% D = 59.94 – 52.95% D – = 52.94 - 50% F = below 50% Grades will be posted on MOODLE : Grades will be posted via code name on MOODLE under a section titled Grades . Alphabetized by code name graded work (quizzes, homework and exams) can be picked up from plastic file bins in the metal bookcase across from my office door (317 Williams). Announcements will be made by e-mail or in class when graded material is ready to be picked up. Exams, Quizzes and HW : There are 3 hourly exams scheduled on the Thursdays listed below from 5:30 pm-7:00 pm (in 102 (A-K) & 103 (L-Z) Williams) and a comprehensive final exam (in 103 Williams only unless announcement made otherwise) . Contact me before an exam (578-5978 or [email protected]) if you will miss an exam due to a University allowed absence. There are NO MAKE-UP exams, quizzes or HW and no late quizzes or HW will be accepted. You must take an alternate exam before your University allowed absence or the percentage earned on the final exam will be used for the missed exam as the final is comprehensive. You may only miss one exam, and it must be excused. An alternate exam will be given earlier on the day of the exam for conflicts. The quizzes and exams are closed book and closed note (unless a take home quiz is given). Each exam (except for the comprehensive final) will focus mainly on the chemistry covered in class since the previous exam, but earlier chemistry may also appear on later exams because it is difficult to completely exclude it. Note: In order to take the final exam at an alternate time, you will need to obtain permission through your Dean’s office by March 24th if you have 3 finals within 24 hours to be able to reschedule. Hourly Exams ( 5:30-7:00 PM ): Feb. 9, Mar. 16; Apr. 20 Final Exam: Tuesday, May 2, 10 AM-Noon NOTE : For all exams you must bring the following: a large green Scantron sheet (the 8 ½ x 11 inch size - purchase at least four at the bookstore), sharpened pencils, and you may also bring a molecular model kit. “The use of and/or even access to any electronic devices, such as cell phones, tablets, lap tops, etc. during graded events is forbidden. Any of these devices seen out during the event will result in immediate confiscation of quiz or exam and possible referral to the Dean of Students for cheating.” Turn cell phones off before coming to class or an exam.
