Rewards Visa, new customers will receive 20 foods and or beverage items after spending $500.00 and although $500 seems like a lot to spend for 20 coffees the average cost of a specialty coffee from Starbucks is around $5.00, thus saving you nearly $100.00 coffee! Beth Hoerschgen Principles of Management Dropbox 4 February 4, 2018 Chapter 10 4) What are the various methods for recruiting employees? Why are some better than others? In what sense are they better? Recruitment, according to the book, is “the development of a pool of applicants for jobs in an organization” (313). Recruiting can either be done internally or externally. Internal recruitment allows a company to promote within hiring an employee they already have an established relationship with and an understanding of their abilities and work ethic. By hiring within, employees have room for advancement, thus promoting longevity. A negative to this is that “if existing employees lack skills or talent, internal recruitment yields a limited applicant pool, leading to poor selection decisions” (313). External recruitment is hiring outside of the organization and this allows a company to introduce staff with a different skillset or one that can bring about new ideas and further the grown of the organization. 6) What purpose does performance appraisal serve? Why are there so many methods of appraisal? A performance appraisal is defined in the book as “the assessment of an employee’s job performance” (326). The ultimate goal of an appraisal is to increase the effectiveness of an organization and this is done by assessing the employee, providing goals to improve employee performance, rewarding those who exceeded expectations and gathering information about areas that warrant improvement, such as training. Appraisals are tailored to how the employee’s behavior and performance are perceived by their managers and other direct reports. As noted in the book, “different people see different sides of an employee’s performance” (341) and as there are no right and wrong way to complete an appraisal the guidelines noted on page 327 are helpful in determining the best method. Interview Worksheet Provide a synopsis of your results. All of the questions were considered illegal and should be asked during an interview. These questions could have resulted in discrimination and a could lead to a lawsuit. Anything related to age, race, gender, religion, disabilities, marital status, pregnancy, origin or birth place are all illegal to ask. Interview questions should be focused on how their skills will help be a success in the position they are applying and they should help the manager to understand how the candidate might or might not be the best fit for your organization. By asking questions such as what their greatest work achievement is, how they overcame an obstacle in the workplace, how they would accomplish a goal or approach an unfavorable situation or why they chose to apply
