experiment with new ways that are potentially more consistent with the vision’s future state. In other words, transformational leaders support a learning orientation. They encourage employees to continuously question the way things are currently done, actively experiment with new ideas and practices, and view reasonable mistakes as a natural part of the learning process[CITATION McS34 \p 341 \l 4105 ]. E. Build commitment towards the vision Transforming a vision into reality requires employee commitment, and transformational leaders build this commitment in several ways. Their words, symbols, and stories build a contagious enthusiasm that energizes people to adopt the vision as their own. Leaders demonstrate a “can do” attitude by enacting and behaving consistently with their vision. This persistence and consistency reflect an image of honesty, trust, and integrity. Case Six Power/Influence 1. Describe the sources of power you can use to ensure that the project deliverables are completed on-time and to the level of quality required. (10 marks) As the project manager, since all those eight employees are not fully under may supervision, I will use expert power and referent power. Expert power refers to an individual’s or work unit’s capacity to influence others by possessing knowledge or skills valued by others. As the project manager it is perceive that I know everything about the project, and I can manage the uncertainties of the project. My expertise can help cope with uncertainties in three ways: prevention, forecasting and absorption[CITATION McS36 \p 281 \l 4105 ]. I will delegate the task accordingly and will follow up regularly to know the status of the deliverables and to make sure that we will deliver it according to the set timeline. I will also use referent power which refers to the capacity to influence others on the basis of an identification with and respect for the power holder. It is largely a function of the person’s interpersonal skills and tends to develop slowly. It is also associated with charisma which is a personal characteristic or special gift that serves as a form of interpersonal attraction and referent power over others[CITATION McS37 \p 282 \l 4105 ]. As the project manager I will make it a point that I have an open communication with all of the 8 employees to serve as a tool in ensuring we are accomplishing the work as per the goals of the project. I will develop high degree of trust, respect and devotion among each other. I will build rapport and ensure that I’m supportive to every team’s concerns and issues. These interpersonal skills will give me power and influence over the team through mutual respect and understanding.
