(10 marks)As the project manager, since all those eight employees are not fully under may supervision, Iwill use expert power and referent power. Expert power refers to an individual’s or work unit’scapacity to influence others by possessing knowledge or skills valued by others. As the projectmanager it is perceive that I know everything about the project, and I can manage theuncertainties of the project. My expertise can help cope with uncertainties in three ways:prevention, forecasting and absorption[CITATION McS36 \p 281 \l 4105 ]. I will delegate the taskaccordingly and will follow up regularly to know the status of the deliverables and to make surethat we will deliver it according to the set timeline. I will also use referent power which refers tothe capacity to influence others on the basis of an identification with and respect for the powerholder. It is largely a function of the person’s interpersonal skills and tends to develop slowly. It isalso associated with charisma which is a personal characteristic or special gift that serves as aform of interpersonal attraction and referent power over others[CITATION McS37 \p 282 \l4105 ]. As the project manager I will make it a point that I have an open communication with allof the 8 employees to serve as a tool in ensuring we are accomplishing the work as per the goalsof the project. I will develop high degree of trust, respect and devotion among each other. I willbuild rapport and ensure that I’m supportive to every team’s concerns and issues. Theseinterpersonal skills will give me power and influence over the team through mutual respect andunderstanding.
