There are internet lurkers and stalkers everywhere that watch everyone online.
Fram 83. “Any women active online runs the risk of attracting these kind of frantic hate-jerkers or worse.” (Penny 263). Many cruel people are on the internet spreading awful hate messages all around. Many women are constantly scared as to what others think about them and they are constantly trying their hardest to please everyone. Girls are constantly discouraged to browse the internet due to the hate that is on there. Many people send awful messages that are filled with harsh or sexual comments to women. This brings down many girls self esteem and causes them to become even more self conscious than they already were. I believe that girls and boys should both have the same amount of protection when it comes to online safety. I believe this because boys are at just as much risk for these awful hatred filled messages as girls are. Yes boys may not receive as many hate filled messages but they are still at risk for receiving for them. 4. “The hatred of women in public spaces online is reaching epidemic levels…” (Penny 264). I do agree with Penny that hatred of women online has reached an epidemic level. As technology continues to develop and grow, people have many more ways now than ever to send hateful messages to women. There are several different social media platforms that give others easy access to personal information. You can easily message someone or post hateful messages about someone for all to see. The internet allows people to create fake identity’s which allows people to hide. They can hide behind these fake identities and say awful things to women that they would never say in person. I have heard so many stories from friends and family in which they have received awful hate filled or sexual messages from guys online. I think that in order to help combat cyber sexism, more
Fram 9security settings need to be put in place. Anyone who says something hateful towards someone should immediately be deleted and blocked from the social media platform in which they posted or messaged on. Their also be stronger filters placed on whom is allowed to message people. Only “friends” should be allowed to messageeach other instead of anyone being allowed to message whoever they want. 5. Penny herself has a very good understanding that some of her readers may be hostile to criticism on the internet. Penny attempts to gain sympathy of her audience towards the end of the essay to help address the concerns of her audience. To help comfort them she offers an alternative and shares what the positive things are that the internet has to offer. She explains how much the internet has come alongand developed and how it has truly helped people all around the world. The internetis something that everyone has easy access to and allows people to go on and easily learn information.
