With that, the argument proposes that even with knowing all the physical facts about the world, Mary will still learn something when she leaves the black and white room, for she will see color that she has never seen before. If she learns something, she does not know all the physical things about the world just by learning science alone. Seeing color however, can be challenged when questioning if she really knows all about the physical world in that instead of learning new information , she acquires a new ability where she is able to recognize a color as red; new experiences can lead a person to learn something they already knew but to grasp it in a new way, just as Mary did when she left the room. For example, an artist can be taught all of the techniques required to be an artist but when he goes to a new country and sees a new style of painting, it’s not necessary that he learns a new fact but that new experiences can lead to a new artistic ability.
