BUS 270 Exam 2 – Review 3. Explain the Fiedler Contingency theory. The model states that no leadership style is best. A leader’s effectiveness is based on the situation. This is the result of two factors. Leadership Style and Situational Favorableness. The situation Favorableness depends on 3 factors: Leader Member Relations: How much your team trusts you. If you are more trusted, you can influence your team more. Task Structure: Refers to the type of Task you are doing. Unstructured or clearly defined. If they are unstructured and the leader has little knowledge, then the team will view if unfavourability. Position Power: The amount of power to direct the group. The more power you have the more favorable is the situation. As a leader you can either be weak or strong.
