Akerman's family was to see her and be reunited again, but it was far too complicated and I couldn’t do anything about it. The film slightly reminded me of my relationship with my family which currently live back home in Colombia while I pursue my studies. Of course, my mother always has the initiative to message me or call me to be updated on my lifestyle because she misses me. In a sense, often I felt as if I were listening to letters written from my own mother being worried about me. This was one of the reasons I believe that the film resonated with me and kept me intrigued. I think that filmmakers did a great job in the making of this film since they captured exactly the essence of what the letters were talking about. Overall, I found the film’s plot very interesting and intriguing which is why I say that it has great standards for the period of time and the genre of the film. The cinematography was on point, especially the lighting of the scenes and the specific backgrounds to accompany the voice of Chantal Akerman which produced a dull and distant effect. However, the best part of the film was listening and understanding the letters since it made the effect of telling only half of the story because Chantal Akerman only read the letters from her mother’s side and absolutely

Juliao 4 excluded her own letters which causes the viewer to only imagine its content. It is curious to be able to see a whole different aspect of New York City after being able to live in it for a decent amount of time. The contrast between an ongoing experience of a moving and active city to a passive and peaceful one with deserted streets captured my attention the most throughout the film.
