will never think of you. I will never mention your name. You don't know what you were to me, once. Why, once ... Oh, I can't bear to think of it! I wish I had never laid eyes upon you! You have spoiled the romance of my life. How little you can know of love, if you say it mars your art! Without your art, you are nothing. I would have made you famous, splendid, magnificent. The world would have worshipped you, and you would have borne my name. What are you now? A third-rate actress with a pretty face” (Wilde 64). This selection shows Dorians true character, a shallow and unkind individual, hurting the only one who loves him, which is also similar to Narcissus’ treatment of Echo. 3. The yellow book that Lord Henry sends Dorian, is similar to a modern day “little black book,” a book full of toxic things to influence the reader. The contents of the book influences Dorian to lead a debauched lifestyle. Dorian is attracted to the book and the lifestyle, while he knows they are both bad for him. This is similar to the way people do things they know they aren’t supposed to do out of curiosity and the unknowing. The negative effects of the book can be shown in Dorian, immediately after he reads it and is late meeting Lord Henry, shown here, "I am so sorry, Harry," he cried, "but really it is entirely your fault. That book you sent me so fascinated me that I forgot how the time was going" (Wilde 92). 4. Jewels are so important to Dorian, because they, like him, never age. They are always beautiful, and never change from their initial, beautiful state. They symbolize, Dorian himself. Dorian is drawn to the power of the jewels because of their unchanging beauty; a symbol of his own fate. The mention of the snakes, serpents and a dragon relate to Dorian, in that, in order to reach the precious jewels in, or protected by the creatures they must first go through the creatures, by reasoning with them. This is parallel to the way Dorian has to sell his soul to the devil [serpent] to achieve eternal beauty [jewels].

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
