United States decided to overlook Hitler’s actions because it was for the country’s best interest. Once the U.S. realized how much a threat Germany was becoming to them, the attack on Pearl Harbor only supported their reason to join the war. The United States was looking after its long term interests in both instances where they chose to stay neutral and also when they joined the war. President Franklin D. Roosevelt knew that it was unnecessary for the U.S. to join the war because it would cost a lot of money and there were would be fatalities. President Roosevelt did not want to repeat what happened after World War 1 so it was in their best interest to stay neutral. As Hitler’s forces were growing stronger and they started conquering many countries in Europe, the United States realized that America would be greatly harmed if the Axis had taken over Europe because the resources and allies that they had there would no longer exist. If the U.S. did not attack Japan they would look weak to the rest of the world and would risk being attacked again, by the Japanese or other hostile forces. As Germany was becoming a greater threat and the U.S.’s allies were endangered it is obvious that war was necessary. Although the crimes against humanity that the Nazis committed were atrocious it was not enough to get America into battle because they only looked out for what would be best for them.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
