it was a different story forum other people such as African-Americans and working-class people. (Grundy 101-103) For African-American males sports had a different effect on their lives. Unlike white men African American men had to deal with Jim Crow era during this time it was on the African American people. Speaking more specifically to just Sports and African-American males it was very hard for them they had to deal with racism when traveling two places like West Virginia in still having to deal with many racial issues. I would like to speak about a specific situation with the coach named John B McLendon. There was a situation when after his team completed a game in West Virginia when they boarded a bus since they were African Americans they had to go to the back of the bus they soon realize that there was only one seat left and it was next to a young white woman. They decided that one specific player would sit in the spot considering he needed the most breast. The white woman said that she did not mind that the young man sat next to her but dealing with the racial issues in this area the bus driver however had a different view on the situation. He told the player that he could not sit there people on the bus began to complain about needing to get to their destinations. After this the bus driver walked back to the front of the bus and continued driving. When the bus soon arrived into some mountains outside of Charleston the bus driver pulled off the road and then went to the bus and repeated that the young man could not sit in that seat. After being told this last time by the bus driver the coach made the decision to pull his players off the bus. (Grundy 158-159)

Garcia 3 When analyzing this situation many people may think that this would have been a victory to the bus driver but in fact McLendon and his team made their point and avoided violence. In the situation it showed that it was in fact the bus driver that was displaying the disruptive emotions rather than African Americans. Through this situation that these boys had to go through they learned a lot from their coach. Like I stated previously Sports was a way for these young men to learn to not let anyone in stripped you of your dignity and to always have respect. African
