1 Welcome to the 20th edition of the Vault Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms , the most comprehensive, candid, up-to-date guide to the most prestigious law firms. The Vault Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms features a ranking of the nation’s top firms, as well as practice area, regional, quality of life, diversity, and summer associate program rankings. The guide provides an insider’s perspective of life inside BigLaw, with detailed profiles of the Vault Law 100 firms featuring salary information, notable perks, quotes from current law firm associates and more. In 2017, nearly 18,000 associates from across the country took our survey. Respondents ranked firms based on overall, regional, and practice area prestige (associates were asked only to rank those firms with which they were familiar, and could not rank their own firms). We also asked associates to comment on and rate their own firm in areas such as satisfaction, hours, compensation, diversity, associate/partner relations, transparency, selectivity in hiring, and business outlook. As always, it’s the associates who give us the Vault Top 100, not Vault editors or law firm management. We’re at it year after year, surveying associates and bugging law firm recruiting directors and hiring partners, for one reason: to provide law students and lawyers with an insider’s view of what it’s like to work at the nation’s most prestigious law firms. But why do we bother ranking the Top 100 firms? Why does law firm prestige matter? A job is a job, after all, and many law firms not profiled in this guide pay well and offer valuable professional experience. Still, prestige matters plenty. Working for a prestigious law firm means being exposed to a greater variety and volume of work, as well as more high-profile cases and deals. It can also mean working with some particularly gifted and accomplished lawyers from whom you can learn a great deal. And for the many associates who end up making a lateral move to another firm, going in-house, or transitioning to a non- legal role, working for a prestigious firm gives instant credibility in the job market and marks you as someone to be taken seriously throughout your career. But prestige isn’t everything. Choosing the right firm may mean looking beyond prestige to such issues as compensation, hours, perks, diversity, and corporate culture. Our Quality of Life rankings reflect those firms that come out on top in these and other areas. Recent years have seen massive changes in both the global economy and legal hiring. Now more than ever, the smart candidate will use every resource at his or her disposal—and we think there’s no better resource for finding a law firm job than the Vault Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms . Use our prestige, practice area, regional, quality of life, summer associate and diversity rankings to identify the firms that are most attractive to you, and then read our profiles to get the inside scoop on your target firms. As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
