Critical Thinking Questions 1. Some scholars have argued that the parole system should be abolished. Do you agree or disagree with this? Why? I can see why some scholars argue against the parole system. However, not every criminal who gets put on parole offends again. Sometimes parole is a good thing and helps inmates adapt to normal life again. 2. Some prisons are now being run on a “for-profit” basis. Do you think that this is a good or bad idea? Why? It can be a good and bad thing. It can be bad because anytime things become about money, the greed spreads around like a disease. However, it can be a good thing because prisoners are working and doing more than just rotting away. 3. Do you think that any of the current punishments deter or reduce crime? Why or why not? Which punishment do you think is most likely to reduce crime in society? I think to a certain extent, punishments deter crime for most people. Most sane people can choose not to commit a crime out of fear of going to prison. Therefore, prison is the most effective punishment they have in place at the moment. However, people will still commit crimes either way.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
