Electron Transport system – also occurs in the mitochondria 4. Give the equation for cellular respiration: ATP + H 2 O ADP + P i + energy Exercise 7.1: 5. What is the primary objective of this exercise? Be specific. To design & perform an experiment in order to look at the effects of alcohol concentration on the fermentation ability of yeasts. 6. What is meant by Facultative anaerobe? The organism can live with or without oxygen. 7. What does it mean to “fortify” a beverage like wine? Add alcohol 8. Investigate and speculate why naturally aged wines contain between 12% and 14% alcohol. Consider that yeast cells are live and the effect of alcohol on living cells. 12% to 14% is when the alcohol concentration begins to kill the yeast cells that are producing the alcohol. It’s essentially an equilibrium efficiency line/level for the reaction.

9. The equation for fermentation is: Sugar (in the presence of yeast) alcohol + CO 2 The materials and equipment you will have include 100% alcohol, test tubes (large diameter test tubes), fermentation tubes (smaller diameter tubes closed off at one end), yeast, and sugar. The yeast and sugar are mixed to start the fermentation process. The fermentation tube can be used to collect gases.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
