You will need to address several topics, ensuring that you adhere to organisation expectations and policies. The areas are: Understanding clients’ personal support requirements Encouraging maximum client participation Addressing personal support requirements Identifying changes in client health and support requirements Reporting on discussion.

P a g e | 31 To facilitate each area, you should cover topics that address each subject; for this you may make suggestions to the client or have them report on thoughts and needs, etc. For the report part, explain to the client what reporting you will be doing as a result of the meeting. Topics for each area are given in the Elements and Criteria, which can be found at the beginning of your Learner Guide, which you may wish to examine before the activity to refresh yourself. John has cerebral palsy. He uses walking stick to walk and has daily individual support daily. Ben is the support worker for John. Ben: good morning John. John.: good morning. Ben. John would you like to make cup of tea for yourself? John: no I don’t feel like. You make one for me today. Ben. Ok I will make cup of tea for you but later on we will go for a walk ok? John: I am scared to walk outside. I had 2 falls in past 2 weeks. Ben: Don’t worry. You had fall because you didn’t have walker till then. We will walk with the help of walker. John: Ok only for few minutes. You know I feel tired easily, Ben: Ya we will go around the Near by park only. 2. Workplace activity: Have the instructor observe you in the workplace doing the following: Safely supporting at least 2 individuals by performing the activities outlined in the performance criteria of this unit. This includes following support requirements of an established individualised plan and supporting each of the following activities: o bed bathing o dressing, undressing and grooming o eating and drinking using appropriate feeding techniques o oral hygiene o shaving o showering o toileting and the use of continence aids o using aids and equipment including devices used by the person Performing the following hazardous manual handling scenarios at least once: o transferring a person between bed and chair o transferring a person in and out of car o falls recovering If these scenarios are unavailable to perform on a client, you can use a
