from LAN because WAN is typically used for coverage of large areas; for instance, WAN is used in cities and also has the capability of allowing computers in different countries to connect. On the other hand, LAN is used for smaller networks such as in schools, homes, and businesses. Layer 2 is called the Data Link Layer in the OSI Model. The security feature and bandwidth conservation are not optimized in this layer because communication in this layer is opened. Layer 3 is the Network Layer in the OSI Model; it deals with routing that intercommunicates with networks in the different locations. To determine whether LAN or WAN would be the best choice for one’s business, some factors to consider are ownership of the network, cost, design and maintenance, and speed. Other parameters include propagation delay, congestion, and application. Based on your business needs one can choose the best option that will benefit his/her business. The Network Layer makes it possible for intercommunication on local and remote. LAN segmentation occurs in the Data Link Layer by use of 892.1Q VLAN. Sometimes, Layer 3 routing is used in LAN. Some reasons include segmentation through subnetting, intelligent wide area route connectivity, to relieve bandwidth congestion and broadcast firewall security. When Layer 3 protocol is implemented in LAN, the benefits are better because network security improves and also does WAN. The two OSI Model complements each other well.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
