What are higher order conditioning and stimulus generalization and give an example for each? Higher order conditioning: a conditioned stimulus functions as if it was an unconditioned stimulus and is paired with an otherwise neutral stimuli creating another conditioned response. Example: pairing a light with the bell will lead Pavlov’s dog to salivate to the light. Stimulus generalization: when an organism that has learned a response to a specific stimulus responds in the same to way to new stimuli that are similar to the original stimulus. Example: Little Albert became afraid of the white rat as well as the Fur Hat and the rabbit.
