Illinois Institute of Technology expects students to maintain high standards of academic integrity. It is expected that all exams and individual assignments will be completed independently. Evidence of cheating or plagiarizing will result in a failing grade, and further action will be taken according to the IIT Code of Academic Honesty. All violations of academic integrity will be reported to [email protected]The full university academic honesty policy can be found at: l Copying the work of others and presenting it as your own will not be tolerated. “Weak” paraphrasing (changing a few words in the sentence or slightly altering the structure of a sentence) still constitutes plagiarism. In psychology, we typically avoid using direct quotes unless the quote is essential for making a point. Quotations should be used very rarely (maximum of 1 quote in any paper). If we do use a quote, we must use quotation marks and include the page number from the source (see the APA manual for proper quotation formats). If you turn in an assignment, even a “draft,” without following these rules, this is considered plagiarism. If you have anyfurther questions about what constitutes plagiarism, ask me.
SafeAssign / TurnItIn Software. All written assignments will be submitted via Blackboard and will be subject to review by the University’s SafeAssign / TurnItIn software, which identifies content that appears in other sources. When turning in assignments you will have access to the SafeAssign / TurnItIn report, and will know if your work has been flagged for possible plagiarism. If this software identifies that you have copied content from another source, without quoting and properly citing that content (i.e., plagiarism) you will receive a zero for the assignment.
Schedule of Topics and AssignmentsIt is extremely important that you do the assigned readings prior to class. The readings will serve as a foundation for our class discussions; lectures and our class activities will provide material that is not duplicated in the text. Readings from the Kruase and Corts text are indicated by “[chapter]”. As the semester progresses, I may make changes to the schedule below.
