situations become difficult, and through believing in personal freedom and willpower, people canchange the outcomes of life choices. Additionally optimistic, personal freedom makes the case that despite genetic predispositions, such as to alcohol or drug addiction, the choice remains in every individual’s hands where to go further in life. Instead of believing that one is destined to becontrolled by substances in the same way one’s parents previously were, that person has unlimited opportunities to prove ‘determinism’ wrong.
Cook 2I personally subscribe myself to the idea that while it is likely mankind is the invention ofsome higher being; I believe the actions we perform are simply a result of free will. Instead of believing in determinism, where one’s actions could be blamed on a host of other reasons, I subscribe to freedom. I believe this way due to the way I was raised, in a home where taking responsibility for one’s actions was a virtue. If I take responsibility for my own actions, I succeedwhere my actions were virtuous and I fail, and eventually learn, where my actions were not.Furthermore, I believe a sense of freedom allows for people to be more empathic with their decision-making. In my own life, taking responsibility and being honest with my own mistakes allows me to be kinder and more understanding when meeting and speaking to others. I
