This helps bring resources to communities that are in need and decide if the existing resources are still in need. Resources Castro, R. (n.d.). Why Are Statistics Important in the Health Care Field? Retrieved from Ambrose, J. (2018). Applied Statics for Health Care. Retrieved from Discuss why it is important for a person working in health care to understand statistical concepts. Provide an example of how statistical data is used in your organization or specialty area today and what you are expected to do with this information as a practitioner. It is important for health care workers to understand statistical concepts because they are used in everyday nursing care in the electronic medical record. This record collects a large amount of data on an everyday basis about the patients in the hospital. “The enormous volume of health care data collected on a daily basis from the electronic medical record (EMR), including information such as biostatistics, satisfaction surveys, birth weights, mortality rates, diagnoses, and testing results, can help to answer questions through data analysis” (Ambrose, 2018). This data can help in making good patient outcomes. I work in a Med-Surg department and we gather a lot of statistical data for example we determine the fall risk of every patient. We gather this information to decide what interventions need to be in place to prevent falls. For example, I had a patient coming to me from the Emergency Department that was 96 years old and had a history of dementia I know that I need to put this patient close to the nursing station and pay close attention to the patient the first time we get them out of bed. This information gathering starts at handoff report and continues through my assessment. Resources:
