Tools used for education by the Romans in these classes were usually wooden tables, and abacus, and teacher owned textbooks.1These schools emphasize memorizing. As they grew, they would beprepared to enter the workforce. The working world was thought to develop their wisdom and stature, this could occur as young as age 7.2In this culture it is recommended that for your children to be raised correctly, a wise nurse and educated parents it what is needed. This combination was put in place to produce children who would grow up to be successful, profitableand hard working. An awesome example was used to explain their philosophy on this. A farmer shelters and encloses its plants when they are young and small, so the breeze does not injure them. However, when the stalks thicken, they are pruned and exposed to the wind to be shaken and tossed to make them more productive.3
