∂Q/∂a = - 213” in the context of the problem. (5) In this problem consider the context from problem 4. An up-and-coming assistant manager at the store has been keeping track of the price of apples, pears, and the quantity of apples purchased at the store. This assistant manager has been able to determine the following pieces of information from the data she collected. When the price of apples is \$4 per kilogram and the price of pears is \$3 per kilogram the store sells 3000 kilograms of apples per week and she also knows that ∂Q/∂a = - 179 and ∂Q/∂p = 83. The assistant manager was told to change the price of apples to \$4 . 5 per kilogram and the price of pears to \$4 per kilogram for the following week. Using a linear approxi- mation (look at page 931 in your textbook, section 12.7 - Linear Approximation) the assistant manager estimates the quantity of apples that will be purchased given these new prices for apples and pears. What is this estimate?

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
