Another strategy to promote self-care is through healthy eating and exercise. As a nurse, we spend all of our time seeing that others are healthy and often neglect ourselves. Taking the time to eat a home cooked meal at an actual meal time is unheard of at times. It is important to realize we need to also take time to care for ourselves in this aspect. A third self-care technique to employ is adequate sleep. As a nurse, especially when working varied shifts, it is easy to get into the habit of getting a couple hours of sleep here, a couple hours there, this quickly takes a toll on the body. Not achieving adequate sleep not only make us feel mentally and physically exhausted, but also increases the risk of making mistakes at work that we probably would not make had we been well rested. 7/17/18
