Horizontal reinforcement shall be embedded in mortar and shall be continuous through intersections and corners. 6.1.2.1.4.3 Concrete infill in vertical core blocks shall be poured to a level 40 mm below the top of the block in order to form a key at the joints. 6.1.2.1.4.4 Where vertical reinforcement is required in walls constructed of horizontal core blocks, concrete stiffeners shall be introduced at the desired locations e.g. at corners, intersections or at regularly spaced intervals along the wall. 6.1.2.2 Shear panels 6.1.2.2.1 Shear panels shall be constructed along sections of each exterior wall in all concrete and masonry structures except framed structures. 6.1.2.2.2 A shear panel shall be 1.8 m in horizontal dimension along the face of the wall and a minimum of 150 mm in blockwall thickness. The panel shall extend from floor to ring beam, with no openings or penetrations. If the shear panel must be divided in two parts, the total horizontal dimension shall be 2.4 m with the smaller portiont having a minimum length of 1.0 m. 6.1.2.2.3 Shear panels may be constructed of horizontal core or vertical core blocks. Concrete of 1:2:4 nominal mix shall used for stiffeners and infill. The construction and reinforcement of shear panels shall be as follows: a) horizontal reinforcement for horizontal or vertical core blocks panel: masonry mesh 50 mm x 50 mm x 3 mm (2 in x 2 in x 10 G) or equivalent along the mortar joints on alternate rows; b) vertical reinforcement for horizontal core blocks panel: two 250 mm x 150 mm solid concrete stiffeners on either side of the panel reinforced with four 12 mm diameter vertical bars and 6 mm diameter stirrings at 150 mm between centres ; and
