D.Major in Environmental Studies.........................................................................................281. A major in Environmental Studies must be completed. Environmental Studies electives in the major: A student may opt to take sixsemester hours of the advanced-level electives (required for the minimum of 28 semesterhours in the Environmental Studies major) from the professional program at DukeUniversity. These courses will not apply toward the forestry major.New participants must meet with the department chair for advisement concerning the environmental studiesmajor no later than the junior year.MEDICINE, DENTISTRY, AND OPTOMETRYCooperative ProgramsB.A. or B.S. DegreeRequirements for a Major in Medicine or Dentistry or OptometryUnder the plan of the cooperative programs, the bachelor of arts degree or the bachelor of sciencedegree will be conferred when the student has completed satisfactorily:A. The respective basic requirements for the bachelor of arts or the bachelor of sciencedegree.B. Science and mathematics courses from the list of recommended courses which satisfythe minimum admission requirements of the professional school. See the respectivepreprofessional programs following.C. Sufficient electives to bring the total credit to ninety-four semester hours with at leasta “C” average.D. At least sixty hours, including the last thirty hours, of the preprofessional programmust be completed in residence in the College of Arts and Sciences at Baylor.E. At least thirty semester hours in any accredited U.S. school or college of dentistry,medicine, or optometry with a minimum grade average of “C” (i.e., essentially the firstyear of the basic sciences curriculum of the professional school transferred to Baylor);this requirement substitutes for the more traditional undergraduate “major.”This “three-year” program is available to all students; however, it is recommended onlyfor students with exceptional academic ability who, because of age or financial burdens, findit necessary to shorten their educational process by one year. Baylor University has limitedformal preentry agreements guaranteeing admission to Baylor College of Medicine andBaylor College of Dentistry.
