After application to the surface, a magnetic tool induced a magnetic field to shift the particles into cracks, exposing the metal specimen flaws and cracks. The second method was called the Liquid Penetrant method that involved using certain aerosol cans containing certain liquid ingredients to act upon the metal specimens, to show their imperfections around welds and cracks in the metal itself. The three different types of aerosol cans were Developer, Penetrant, and Nondestructive for Materials. Using this method, each was applied to show the flaws and cracks in each of the specimens.Procedure1.Examined each test specimen visually. Located all apparent flaws in the basic material as well as in welded joints. 2.Had instructor designate which specimens will be tested by the liquid penetration methodand which by the magnetic particle method. 3.Followed the directions supplied with each of the test kits. 4.Identified the flaws or cracks found by use of the prescribed method of NDT on each of the test specimens.
