VPN server is exposed to the outside, but all other hosts on the private network are still protected either by firewalls or by the use of reserved IP addresses. The outside computer have to go through the VPN server to reach the hosts inside the private network, and authenticated by the VPN server, thus allowing network packets to get in only from authorized users using a secure channel between the VPN server and the user. Pic 16.1 from book goes here A VPN is created by establishing a virtual point-to-point connection through the use of dedicated connections, virtual tunneling protocols, or traffic encryption. Using VPN IP packets travel from A to B securely, authenticated, encrypted, and integrity preserved. IP packets can be encapsulated in another IP packet as payload when packets reach to destination protected IP packets are extracted and release to the private network. This called IP Tunneling. Two of the most representative solution of IP tunneling is IPSes and TLS/SSL , TLS/SSL is the most popular one

Tunnel endpoints must be authenticated before secure VPN tunnels can be established. User-created remote-access VPNs may use passwords, biometrics, two-factor authentication or other cryptographic methods. Network-to-network tunnels often use passwords or digital certificates. They permanently store the key to allow the tunnel to establish automatically, without intervention from the administrator. Ans 3. 20 what is IP routing able? In lab7, what is IP routing table for? What do you need to do if you want your ip packet go through VPN tunnel? Why does it work?

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
