There is reported increase in gang violence over the past 5 years including homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault and robbery. The city’s violent crime rate is 311.1/100,000 and general crime rate is 3605/100000. Scavenger Hunt Utilizing the scavenger hunt helps to identify what resources are offered by each of the organizations within the city as well as pertinent data related to them. The park and recreation department provides swimming lessons, nutrition courses, gardening courses as well as kids summer programs, city sports leagues, adult fitness courses, and after school programs. Social Services, located in City Hall, provides protective services such as 30 child care provider programs which accept subsidy benefits, 30 stay at home programs, 95 youth independent living services programs, 105 head start and early head start programs, and 425 adoption assistance programs. Also offered is healthcare assistance (charitable, Medicaid, Medicare and ACA). Located in the church, the soup kitchen provides a commodity supplemental food program, emergency food program, food assistance as well as USDA commodity programs. An average of 44,124 meals are provided a month. The affordable housing project provides studio as well and one and two-bedroom apartments for residents with average income less than $50,000 a year.
