mixture was then measured and recorded; this process of adding 10 mL of the Rolaid mixture to the soda and recording the pH level was then repeated two more times. Beginning a new mixture, 10 mL of the diluted lemon juice was measured into a clean graduated cylinder and added to the beaker containing milk. This solution was then mixed thoroughly with the stirrer and had its pH level recorded using the pH meter. Much like the mixture done before this with the Rolaid mixture and the soda, this process was repeated two more times. After all of the mixtures had been completed, we cleaned all of our equipment and area as a group. We then plotted our results – the recorded pH levels of each mixture – on the graphs given to us. Concluding our exercise, we had our numbers and graphs checked by Sibia. Results No calculations were done for any of the following numbers, only measurements. Milk 6.60 Dilute (1:5) lemon juice 2.94 Dissolved Rolaid solution 6.92 Each measurement made in the table above was made before the mixtures occurred (counting the Rolaid solution as an original solution). The pH levels were measured and recorded for each of the original 50 mL solutions in their respective beakers. Rolaid - Soda Solution mL of Rolaids Solution pH 0 2.92 10 4.19 20 4.96 30 5.12 These numbers pertain to the 50 mL of soda that had 30 mL total of the Rolaid solution added to it. The 0 is the initial 50 mL of soda with its corresponding pH level; the 10 represents the 50 mL of soda with the added 10 mL of Rolaid solution, and so on and so forth for 20 and 30. The pH level clearly rises as more Rolaid solution was added to the soda. Lemon Juice – Milk Solution mL of Dilute Lemon Juice Solution pH 0 6.60 10 6.41 20 6.21 30 6.10 These numbers correspond to the curdled milk mixture of 50 mL of milk and 30 mL of added lemon juice. The numbers of 0, 10, 20, and 30 represent the same thing as they did in the last mixture, only with milk and lemon juice as replacements. The equipment used in the experiment was very simple to use, and our group as a whole did our best to ensure accuracy in all of our measurements by using techniques such as reading the measurement in a graduated cylinder on the table at eye level and rinsing out all of our pieces of equipment when needed.
