Negative symptoms include apathy, lack of emotion and non-existent and poor social functioning (Kirby, 2009). One therapy that is discussed in the article is antipsychotic medication which the doctors proposed that the medication would keep him under control. The drug used under antipsychotic medication and mentioned in the article is amisulpride which is a first-line treatment for newly diagnosed patients (Kirby, 2009). Another medication that can be used for patients with schizophrenia is cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). Cognitive behavior therapy is used in conjunction with the medication prescribed, such as amisulpride to normalize or control experiences such as hallucinations (Kirby, 2009). Such are helpful to reduce or normalize the positive symptoms. Another therapy is family therapy which involves working with the family members whose one of them is diagnosed with schizophrenia. As such, they are better placed to deal with the ailing member.
