Bethany Nguyen- Research Paper- 3 Conclusion Heroin use became a massive problem in Vietnam especially in poverty like cities. Due to certain socioeconomic factors it encouraged those to turn to heroin as a coping mechanism from society. This led to the implementation of the Methadone Maintenance treatment program where areas that were not able to access help were finally able to get the help they needed. In a sense, the Methadone Maintenance Treatment program was a success in terms of meeting their goals. Which was to reduce heroin injection through the prescription of methadone pills and by providing medical, psychosocial, and counselling services. However, it was also a failure because other risk behaviors were developed, in this case, alcoholism. This failure in combating heroin abuse shows that long term plans, potential future outcomes, risk behaviors should be discussed rather than solely on focusing on a certain problem. Failure to take these possible factors into consideration will only solve one problem but open doors to countless others. The methadone maintenance treatment programs however, should continue to provide treatment to those seeking their heroin addiction, until more effective and readily accessible programs are created for the communities of Vietnam, as well as the entire world. It is important to act on these failures and learn from them in order to create a more stable intervention program for the community to avoid the reoccurrence of these failures in the near future.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
