data will have been automatically updated for me through the night. And just in case the update process uses up a lot of system resources, nobody will probably be using the system at 11:00 at night. So it won't interfere with normal work. Next we have to specify how often we want this to recur. Do we want it to occur every day, every other day? In this situation, I want it to occur every day at 11:00 pm, so we'll leave the recur set to one. Next, now I have to specifywhat exactly it is I want Task Scheduler to do. I can have it start a program, send an email, or display a message. We just want it to start a program, click Next. Now we'll browse to and select the update utility located in Program Files X86, DBUpdate, an executable, dbupdate.exe, Open. If there are any additional arguments that need to be added, we would add them right here. For example, with this application, we need to specify the IP address of the database server that we're going to connect to as an argument, and the IP address of that server is 10.0.0.3. So the command we'll actually run is dbupdate.exe, space, 10.0.0.3. That tells this utility which database server it needs to contact and then synchronize with. Click Next. Here's the summary of what's going to happen. The name is Database Update. Here's what it does. Here's when it's going to occur, every day at 11:00 pm, and the action is that it's going to start a program, dbupdate.exe, and the name of the server we're going to connect to is 10.0.0.3. Click Finish and the task has been added. Summary 5:08-5:12 That's it for this demonstration. In this demo, we talked about how to use Task Scheduler to cause an application to run on a regular schedule. Scheduling Tasks 0:00-5:07 In this demonstration, we're going to spend some time talking about how to cause applications to run automatically on a schedule. This is done using the Task Scheduler. Now this can be really useful, because it causes that application that you specify to be run at a particular time. For example, on this system, I have an application on my local hard disk drive in the Program files X86 folder called DBUpdate. Now this application goes out and contacts a master database server somewhere else on my network and then synchronizes my local database contents with the contents of the master database server. That way the database on my local machine stays consistent with the contents of the master database itself. In order for this to happen, however, this application has to be run regularly. Imagine if I let this go for a week or two without running this application. The data on the master database server would probably be way out of sync with the data on my local database server. Now the problem here is that if you rely on us carbon-based life forms to remember to go and run this application on a regular basis to keep the databases consistent, it's probably not going to happen. It might work good for a day or two, but I can guarantee most folks will start forgetting. You need to take the human element out of the equation. You can use the Task Scheduler to accomplish this. Task Scheduler will go out and run whatever application you tell it to run on a schedule that you specify, and that way, you're not relying on us carbon-based life forms to get the job done.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
