Material Used:???????? Theory Contents: - Reservation handling If front office is the most vital department of the hotel then the reservation department is the back bone of the front office. In fact, this department starts functioning much before the hotel starts his operation. Room reservation departs. Reserve for all future dates that means for the current day the reservation are received directly by the reception as reception department know better are received directly by the reception as the reception department knows better regarding the current dates room position. In larger Hotel and for the certain busy seasons, the hotels are sold even from one year to several years in advance. It is not reserving the rooms but also to take down all count of instructions from the person booking regarding any particular preference, billing instruction etc. And then pass on the information to the reception, bill depart. , Housekeeping etc. so that the guest can be made ,more comfortable when he checks in some cases even the room rent is collected in advance and a proper receipt is dispatched along with the confirmation letter. Modes of Reservation The process of making a booking begins with enquiry. There are no. of means by which guest can contact hotels. The most common modes of contacting hotels are as follows:- 1. In Person: Such guests are commonly known as ‘walk-ins’. They are guests who are traveling without plan, or touring during off seasons. 2. Letter: In the earlier days, advance booking generally took this form and were often for several months in advance. Nowadays, letter writing has gone out of fashion, but considerable holiday’s bookings are still made in this fashion. Even if a booking is made in person while discussing various aspects face to face. The letter of Reservation may be following type 3. Telephone: today, reservations are more likely to come in the form of a telephone call. These requests usually come a day or two before the actual date of arrival and sometimes just a few hours before. The reservation made through telephone cannot consider as a contract between hotel and the guest.
