and to our family, so tell Sara that you’re sorry because you cannot go.” “Dad, Sara is my best friend and you know it. I can’t miss her party just because of Larry’s wedding. I am not even that close to Larry. You are already going, so no one is going to miss me or see that I’m not there.” At this point, I really didn’t know what to do. He was old enough to make his own decisions, but yet I really wanted him to go to Larry’s wedding. Consequently, my short temper acted up and I said something which I ever regret hopping off my tongue “John, you can’t do and say just whatever comes to your mind. You have to think about what your priority is and the person that comes first in your life; Sara or Larry? Sara isn’t even related to you, and you knew Larry since the day you were born. I don’t want your selfishness to cause you to miss this very important day. You have to start thinking about other people than just yourself!” I yelled out in a harsh and strident tone. “Dad, I don’t need you in my life to make all my decisions for me.” And he just ran out of the house, and banged the door so hard that even the dust from the walls flew off. After that, all I heard was the ignition of the car, some tire skids, and then a car driving ferociously into the distant as the sound slowly faded away. John hadn’t come home for two days. He had left the day before the party, and still had not returned. I was too upset and disappointed to worry about him. All of this changed with one phone call.
