Decision phase: involves identification of potential productivity value that can be derived from IT • consists of activities that examine all the dimensions and implications of a particular IS investment decision before time and money is committed IT UNIT LEVEL: GROUNDING Grounding capability: firm’s ability to possess domain insights pertinent to its business; enables firm to identify IT investments that it may leverage to improve productivity technical and business domain insights technical domain insights: technical knowledge related to underlying technologies, technical platforms, standards that are adopted within the firm business domain insights: organisational grounding capability serves as knowledge platform = support capability that bundles with Visioning and Sensitising capabilities to enable to make IT decisions INTERNAL BUSINESS LEVEL: VISIONING Visioning capability: firm’s ability to ensure strategic alignment of firm’s IT motivations with its central business focus; enables firm to identify business focus and formulate actionable IT plans actionable: firm needs to visualise compatibility of IT investment with local context during decision making THREE PHASED APPROACH TO IT ENABLED PRODUCTIVITY first dimension (X): IS adoption lifecycle – temporal perspective of decision, implementation, operation second dimension (Y): performance scope level - spatial perspective of IT at three levels - IT unit, Internal Business, External Business
