Arguments of the Step of a Workflow Process An argument is a part of the process property hierarchy that allows you to define values for fields. An argument field is a variable on an argument that allows you to define a value that shapes the parameters of a process property. Table 6 describes how an argument can be defined in the MVPW in order to pass data to and from an individual step in a workflow process. A step for a workflow process can contain several types of arguments. The type of step determines the possible arguments that can be defined. The Type field for an argument affects other fields in the argument that must be defined. For more information, see “Defining an Argument of a Step in the MVPW” on page 53 . Input Arguments of the Business Service Step, Sub Process Step, and Wait Step An input argument allows you to define the value for a field that you must pass to the method of a business service. There are many methods that require an input argument. For more information, see “Fields of an Input Argument of a Process Property” on page 465 . Table 6. Arguments That Can Be Defined on a Workflow Process Step Argument Description Input Argument Used to bring data into a workflow process step. Output Argument Used to send data out of a workflow process step. Search Specification Used to define a search specification for a Siebel operation step. Recipient Used to define a recipient for a task step or a sub process step.

Siebel Business Process Framework: Workflow Guide Version 8.1, Rev A Environment for Developing a Workflow Process About the Process Property 50 Output Arguments of the Business Service Step, Sub Process Step, and Siebel Operation Step An Output argument can be the result of work that is performed by the method of a business service. An output argument can be stored in a process property. A calculated field is not available as a value for an input or an output argument. If you must use a calculated value, then use an expression. For more information, see “Fields of an Output Argument of a Process Property” on page 466 . Process Properties of the Business Service Step Process properties for the business service step include a data type of hierarchy, integration object, or strongly typed integration object , and can be used as an input or output argument for the method of a business service that includes a data type of hierarchy, integration object, or strongly typed integration object. If you must call a workflow process through a business service, then you can map the data that is contained in the input and output property sets to and from a process property. This technique is useful when you must run a workflow within a script. Multi Value Property Window The Multi Value Property Window (MVPW) is a window that can be used to define a process property.
