As this is the first time we will be creating a snapshot for the Production Device, we navigate to Data Protection>Protection Dashboard>Unprotected Storage Groups. The Storage Group primaryesxi64_prod was created when the production device was masked to the Primary ESXi Server. Right click this Storage Group and select Protect. TimeFinder SnapVX Operations

In our example the target device 0094 has been placed in the Storage Group secondaryesxi65_snap_tgt. This Storage Group is a part of the Masking View for the Secondary ESXi server in order to enable access to the target device. So we use the CLI to perform the Link operation. This shows the VMFS Label to be Production_Datastore. This was the label given to the Production Datastore used by StudentVM01 on the Primary ESXi server. This indicates that this is the linked Target LUN. We choose this LUN and click Next. TimeFinder SnapVX Operations

39 Copyright 2015 EMC Corporation. All rights reserved. As the LUN is a replica, the wizard will offer Mount Options for VMFS. In this example we choose “Assign a new signature”. Even though we are presenting the linked Target to a secondary ESXi server, it is a good practice to assign a new signature. We can then click Next and Finish. TimeFinder SnapVX Operations

40 Copyright 2015 EMC Corporation. All rights reserved. As we chose “Assign new signature”, the datastore on the Secondary ESXi server has snap - xxxxxxx as a prefix to the label. TimeFinder SnapVX Operations
