hypothesis for quantitative research DeFranzo (2011). Qualitative research was used toprovide valuable data to be used in designing of a product which include data about userneeds, behavior patterns and use cases. While in mixed methods all the above methods were used. Research methodology is a way tosystematically solve the research problem. Kothari (2004). It may be understood as a scienceof studying how research is done scientifically. In it we study the various steps that aregenerally adopted by a researcher in studying his research problem along with the logicbehind them. It is necessary for the researcher to know not only the researchmethods/techniques but also the methodology.
3.4.Mixed Methods.Bryman (2007) defined mixed methods as the use of both quantitative and qualitativeresearch methods to determine the degree to which the findings are mutually reinforcing orirreconcilable. Complementarity is seeking elaboration, illustration, enhancement, andclarification of the results from one method with the findings from the other method. Theresearcher will adapt Onwuegbuzie & Teddlie (2003) model of conducting a survey and use aquestionnaire that is composed of multiple closed ended, quantitative type items as well asseveral open ended and qualitative type items. This because the researcher will be able tocollect qualitative and quantitative data and try to quantify the data.According to Onwuegbuzie & Teddlie (2003), they stated that although the steps arenumbered, the order can vary from study to study depending on needs and concerns that ariseduring a research study. Five rationales (reasons) exist in using the mixed method researchincluding triangulation, complementarity, development, initiation and expansion.3.5.Qualitative research design.Qualitative research will involve the use of qualitative data, such as interviews, documentsand participant observation so that to understand more and explain social phenomena.Qualitative research thus refers to the meanings, concepts, definitions, characteristics, metaphors, symbols, and descriptions of things.” (Amin, M. E. 2005). Qualitative researchmethods provided more emphasis on interpretation and providing users with complete views, looking at contexts, environmental immersions and a depth of understanding of system. Inline of qualitative case study methods was applied to come out with meaning full and securesystem.3.6.Case study. The case study research was used while carrying out Research in Uganda Martyrs University.Case study method was used to manage qualitative data for understanding and explainingproblems areas associated with their final year project management. Yin (2003) defines a casestudy as an empirical inquiry that investigates a contemporary phenomenon within its real-life context, especially when the boundaries between phenomenon and context are not clearlydefined. The case study approach is useful in this situation since contextual conditions of theevent being studied are critical and researcher has no control over the events as they clarify.
