Because I live and work as a registered nurse in the state of California, I’m looking forward to joining the professional organization, California Association for Nurse Practitioners (CANP). There are so many benefits to joining and being apart of a professional organization. This course has helped gain knowledge on this core competency and its importance to all nurses. The CANP offers its own benefits and incentives to all members. Some of the examples of these incentives are they offer three legal consultations per year, attend educational conferences, ask questions about your NP practice, and assistance in job searching. They even offer a free course to review Controlled Substances II Authority information (California Association for Nurse Practitioners, 2017). Being a member of a professional organization will only help enhance your career. By becoming a member, you have access to up to date information and best practice policies on ways to improve your practice. You also have the chance to be around and network with other nurse practitioners in your area.Learning these topics has made me more prepared to become a nurse practitioner. Although I still have an abundance to learn, I feel I’m starting to have a solid foundation. I now have the knowledge to find the resources to help with assisting when questions come up. This course has made me consider uncomfortable situations that I’ve previously have not. This class may have been challenging but I know I’ll take this knowledge with me in my future classes and my future career as a nurse practitioner.References:Porter-O’Grady, T., & Malloch, K. (2015). I am surprised at the amount of information I have obtained from this course in relation to leadership and the advanced practice role. Integrating professional values through scholarship and service in health care is an important role to utilize professional values in our everyday role as a nurse practitioner. According to Elliott (2017) professional values can be described as beliefs about the quality of concepts or worth and behaviors of a particular discipline. Also these belief can be utilized and bring together individuals of a diverse cultural background and are considered imperative to forming a standard professional identify (pg. 201). As a nurse practitioner utilizing professional values such as caring, compassion, respect of human dignity, advocacy, collaboration, professional advocacy, confidentiality, safety and quality (Elliott, 2017) will help improve and maintain our status as a professional individual. This is not something that is new to
