Multi-dimensional model: a way of looking at causes of behavior that looks at various specific components [biology and behavior of the individual like cognitive, emotional, social, and cultural environment bc any of these components of the system affects the other component making it a multidimensional model.] Dimensions that comprise multi-dimensional model and examples dimensions of one-dimensional model single cause, operating in isolation linear causal model ignores critical info dimensions of multi-dimensional model systematic several independent inputs that become interdependent causes cannot be considered out of context Reciprocal Determinism: A model composed of three factors that influence behavior: the environment, the individual, and the behavior itself . An individual's behavior influences and is influenced by both the social world and personal characteristics n Vulnerability: (susceptibility) or tendency to develop a disorder Genes, dominant and recessive, - Genes: Long molecules of DNA at various locations on chromosomes within the cell nucleus. Dominant gene: is one of a pair of genes that strongly influences a particular trait & one is only needed to determine eye color or hair color. Recessive gene : Must be paired with another recessive gene to determine a trait.(Recessive traits can be carried in a person's genes without appearing in that person) diathesis stress model: individuals inherit tendencies to express certain traits or behaviors. which may then be activated under conditions of stress

each inherited tendency is a diathesis (condition that makes someone susceptible to developing a disorder) when the right kind of life event, such as a certain type of stressor, comes along, the disorder develops reciprocal gene-environment model outcomes are a result of interactions between genetic vulnerabilities and experience examples: schizophrenia, impulsivity genetics make people more likely to seek out certain environments, thus affecting their experiences example: people with a genetic vulnerability to develop a certain disorder such as blood-injury -injection phobia, may also have a personality trait - let’s say impulsiveness - that makes them more likely to be involved in minor accidents that would result in their seeing blood in other words, they may be accident prone because they are continually rushing to complete things or to get to places without regard for their physical safety Neuroscience : Study of the nervous system and its role in behavior, thoughts, and emotions. Neuron: nerve cells that control our thoughts and action operate electrically and communicate chemically neurotransmitters (i.e, serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine, GABA), Neurotransmitters: Chemicals that cross the synaptic cleft between nerve cells to transmit impulses from one neuron to the next.
