(GH) Melanocyte- stimulating hormone (MSH) Thyroid gland Suprarenal (adrenal) gland Ovary Testis Mammary gland Musculo- skeletal system Melanocyte Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) targets the thyroid gland. It results in the production of thyroid hormones (T 3 , T 4 ). Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) targets the suprarenal cortex. It stimulates glucocorticoid secretion. Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) targets follicular cells in the ovaries of females, and nurse cells in the testes of males. FSH causes follicle development and estrogen secretion in females, and sperm maturation in males. Luteinizing hormone (LH) targets follicular cells in the ovaries of females and interstitial cells in the testes of males. In females, LH causes ovulation, corpus luteum formation, and progesterone secretion. Prolactin (PRL) targets the female mammary glands and causes the production of milk. Growth hormone (GH) targets all cells in the body. It causes growth, protein synthesis, lipid mobilization and catabolism. Melanocyte- stimulating hormone (MSH) targets meanocytes. It results in increased melanin production in the epidermis. Prolactin targets the mammary glands & causes the production of milk - LH targets the ovaries in females > Causes ovulation > Causes the release of progesterone - Targets the Lydig cells in males > Causes the release of testosterone > Causes the release of estrogen - FSH targets the ovaries of females > Causes maturation of oocytes > Causes the release of estrogen - Targets the seminiferous tubules of males > Causes sperm production - ACTH targets the suprarenal cortex - Causes the suprarenal cortex to release glucocorticoids - TSH targets the thyroid gland - Causes the thyroid gland to release thyroid hormones: > Thyroxine (T4) > Triiodothyronine (T3) MSH targets melano- cytes; causes melanin production Gonadotropins (GONAD NOURISHERS):

Growth Hormone (aka, Somatotropin ) Targets general cells and skeletal muscles Causes protein synthesis resulting in growth Causes breakdown of triglycerides Helps maintains blood glucose levels Induces the liver cells to release somatomedins, which stimulate protein synthesis in muscles and cartilage cells

Review: The Pituitary Gland Contains axons and terminals for soma located in the supraoptic (make ADH) and paraventricular nuclei (make oxytocin) Highly vascularized. Three major regions; two of which produce hormones; pars tuberalis wraps around infundibulum

Review: Posterior Pituitary Hormones Posterior Pituitary Hormones Antidiuretic hormone (ADH) Oxytocin Uterus Prostate Kidney Oxytocin targets the uterus and mammary glands in females. It causes labor contractions and milk ejection. Antidiuretic hormone , or vasopressin, targets the kidneys. It results in the reabsorption of water, and elevation of both blood volume and blood pressure.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
