Teachers may not ever look at your work the same, the relationship between you and the student that provided the information may be permanently damaged and other students who know about the plagiarized material but not the whole story may treat you as a pariah in study situations. This example it very easy to avoid academically. By always checking and double checking your source information prior to submitting your final work even if the person you receive the information from seems trustworthy. One would pay a far greater consequence in a professional setting. Just one act of plagiarism intentional or not could alter a patents life, or cost that person their job, license to practice, their entire future. In a research setting it could taint the entire project and call in to question past projects that the person has worked on. Causing the findings to be redacted and costing the projects backers untold amounts of money re-administering the experiment.

In a teaching situation it is more likely that a student would commit plagiarism. As it is the professor job to catch and correct this behavior, not doing so and allowing students to continue to commit plagiarism would not only cost the professor their job it could also harm the student’s future. A student allowed to commit plagiarism will continue to do so through out their
